about

"Love Birds In Flight" documents two years of passion and growth from the bottom of the pitless teenage rebellion, a fistful of years into the 21st Century. The recording artists are Excuse Me, may I pee on you?! Comprised of Honeypie and Sweetie, two renegades from the suburban class wars, the pair founded a modest “noise rock” group in the halcyon days of MySpace. Friendships blossomed, music was recorded, and their status as heroes of the Washington, D.C. underground music community was established. Peoria, Il. would only host the false cousins for so long, though they’re grateful for their time in “the Bread Community.”

This disruptive duo would press “record” just four or five times. Three of those sessions are collected on this cassette and digital boxset. The forgotten files include a holiday EP (celebrating wintertime cheer and the idea of religious goodwill), which remains trapped in a broken CD recorder, and another mysterious session of jams and hot licks.

But the story begins with a declined invitation to the county fair. The "Get Out Ketchup" album captures the raw power of the newly formed act in the hot August of 2008. Sexy and intelligent, it’s a miracle work by a dumbo and a wunderkind. Distance between the musical partners would prove the great disintegrator as one surprise basement show (the audience screamed and ran away) was all the band had to show for their icy hot recording for 1.5 years. Until government-monitored terrestrial radio came calling.

The fateful broadcast aired on Jan. 24, 2010’s Third Rail Radio programme through College Park, Md.’s online and FM radio station, WMUC. Excuse Me was one of the live acts in the studio that evening. These decrepit road dogs were finally able to share their meticulous high school metal with an international audience. The studio attendees are heard enthralled on this tape, which is specially priced courtesy Gentle Reminder, Inc. It was a performance of brawn vs. brain, practice vs. animalism.

"An ugly haircut for an ugly man," found on side B of this wonderful tape, is the last known recording by this talented group of fleshy hair people. The growth is audible as “the forever tweens” try on some mature themes for the big dance: political disenfranchisement, spoiled yeast germs, and adult poetry. The experiment in spoken word proves the writers to be fully developed swill-drinkers.

Excuse Me was misunderstood by the public at large. Despite a supportive scene bubbling over with gorgeous love, and plentiful kind MySpace comments, the outside world heard Excuse Me and gagged. They’re weren’t always wrong. The grotesque utterings of two fried potatoes were too extreme for their late 2000s existence. A gentler time may have seen Excuse Me celebrated as the audio astronauts their postal carriers tell them they are.

The first "Love Birds In Flight" tape was compiled at the end of 2012. The hardships of life fought to keep this analog joy suppressed. But, with brave spirit, Gentle Reminder is pleased to present the recordings in full, for the first time, to a wider audience.
